Front Porch. Sit down. Let’s talk.
Dedicated to the memory of Dennis H. Jones, the Front Porch gives you access to the Living Well Network — tools and resources gathered for the sole purpose of helping those with depression, anxiety and alcohol abuse. Whether you need advice for yourself or a loved one, the website is here to provide you with information and applications you can use to brighten your outlook.
Turning Tragedy into Good
“If you ever need anything, don’t be shy,” said Dennis Jones to his pastor, Rick Kirchoff of Germantown United Methodist Church in Germantown, TN. “Let me know how I can help.” These words began a friendship that would last a lifetime. From that first conversation, Rick says Dennis always made it clear he was here to help others. Yet Dennis did not share the depth of his personal struggle with depression — not even with his most intimate partner — his wife, Debbie.
On December 28, 2009, Dennis took his own life. Debbie remembers, “It was a shock. I had no idea.” Debbie and her daughter, Cristin Santana, quickly realized, that “nothing good comes from keeping secrets.” They decided not to hide how Dennis had died or how he had battled depression. Instead, Debbie says, “I wanted to do something to turn this tragedy into something good.”
After much prayer and planning, and with a generous gift from Debbie Jones, the Dennis H. Jones initiative is underway at Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare.
“I wish I had known enough to be able to help Dennis. With this program, we can plug a hole where we didn’t even know there was one,” she says. “Dennis was giving and caring. Now, he can continue to give and care through this work for years to come.”
Our mission is to give you the opportunity to live your life to the fullest by creating and supporting a healing network that can assist you in successfully navigating depression, stress and the challenges of life.
